Fan favorite actress Cady McClain (ex-Dixie Cooney, All My Children; ex-Rosanna Cabot, As the World Turns) recently made her last appearance as Days of our Lives' Jennifer Horton, a role she briefly took over when original portrayer Melissa Reeves was unavailable during the COVID-19 pandemic. Word is still out on what DAYS has planned for Jennifer's future and whether or not McClain will be asked to step into the role again, but the actress says she's grateful for the storyline arc she had the opportunity to play.
"It was very special. I felt like I was revisiting some of the golden years of what soaps can be," she tells Soap Opera Digest. "DAYS is a beautiful show that really honors its past and its history. The storyline was so well-plotted that every time I worked, there was something special about that day."
If for whatever reason DAYS asked her to reprise the role of Jennifer, McClain says that she would "of course" be happy to return. But she adds, "I also understand if they need their Missy back! I have complete understanding for that, too, so whatever is meant to be, I'm okay with it."
After all, she points out, the opportunities on soap operas are endless.
"As they say, no one ever dies in daytime. Nothing ever ends, you know? You just pause for a moment," McClain shares. "It may be years, or you show up somewhere else, or you're a different character -- you just never know what's going to happen! I was just happy to play out my arc and to keep this character on the canvas and support the show and get to do my thing, my contribution to it."
