No guts, no glory. And if you're General Hospital's Kelly Monaco, no guts, perhaps no Samantha McCall!

General Hospital viewers know that whatever Samantha McCall wants, Samantha McCall gets. And it turns out that the character's headstrong attitude comes straight from her portrayer, Kelly Monaco. The actress recently opened up about how her involvement with GH came to be, and it was truly a "no guts, no glory" moment.

As fans of Monaco know, the actress got her start playing Livvie on the 1990s GH spin-off series Port Charles. When the show was canceled in 2003, she had a brief panic moment before she received a call from her team that assured her that she would have her pick of daytime roles. However, it wasn't just any ol' soap role she wanted; Monaco knew that she wanted to star on Port Charles's sister show, so she made a bold move to make it happen.

"I thought GH was the best show on daytime, so I called Brian Frons, who was head of ABC Daytime at the time," she shared with Soaps In Depth. "I don't think [then head writers Charles Pratt Jr. and Robert Guza Jr.] really liked that too much... but lo and behold, Sam was created! So I'm very grateful!"

Fans of GH must have been grateful, too, because Monaco and her gutsy alter ego, Sam, quickly rose to huge fame -- and both have stayed super popular ever since. And that just goes to show that if you really want something, all you have to do is ask for it!
